Norsk Hydro has signed a five year agreement to supply Nexans with roughly 85,000 tonnes of low-carbon aluminium wire rod between 2026 and 2030. The aluminium will be produced in Norway using renewable energy and carries a verified carbon footprint under 4.0 kg CO2 per kg, less than a third of the global average. The deal supports Europe's push to modernize its electricity grid and expand renewable energy infrastructure. The aluminium will be used in medium-voltage power cables, overhead transmission lines, and subsea high-voltage cable systems. Hydro is expanding wire rod production at its Karmøy plant to meet demand from the transmission and distribution market. The EU has classified aluminium as a critical raw material, and Norway supplies 40 percent of Europe's primary aluminium. This long-term agreement aims to provide supply security for grid expansion projects across the continent.
