Hycamite natural gas graphite passes independent battery tests, targets low carbon footprint
batteriesnews.comIndependent lab Polaris Battery Labs confirmed Hycamite's methane decomposition process produces battery-grade graphite comparable to commercial anodes, with first delithiation capacity reaching 361 mAh/g, above the typical reference range. The company claims a carbon footprint under 2.5 kg CO2e per kg of graphite, far lower than conventional synthetic graphite, and plans a 200 kilotonne annual production facility in Europe. Hycamite's methane splitting also yields hydrogen without direct process emissions, though natural gas feedstock still carries upstream emissions. The results mark progress toward reducing Europe's reliance on Chinese graphite processing, a key critical material concern for battery supply chains.
