Residents in Kehelland, Cornwall, are transitioning from traditional heating oil to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO). This renewable liquid fuel works with existing oil heating systems, allowing older off-grid homes to reduce carbon emissions without the high cost of installing heat pumps or upgrading electrical infrastructure. Government officials from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero recently visited the village to evaluate HVO as a scalable solution for the 1.7 million UK homes still relying on heating oil, particularly those with solid stone walls or limited grid capacity.
