Hundreds march against Derbyshire carbon capture pipeline: Peak Cluster CO2 scheme faces safety and ecology concerns
hellorayo.co.ukCampaigners in Derbyshire held a relay protest along the proposed 128-mile route of the Peak Cluster carbon capture pipeline, from the High Peak to the Wirral. Organized by Action Against Carbon Capture Storage on 27 September, the march drew nearly 1,000 residents from five counties who cited worries about pipeline safety, ecological damage, and the impact of large above-ground installations near Dove Holes and Chapel-en-le-Frith. Peak Cluster, a group of cement and lime producers, plans to pipe CO2 from plants in Buxton, the Hope Valley, and near Cauldon to storage beneath the Irish Sea. The group says the project will protect jobs and prevent over three million tonnes of CO2 entering the atmosphere each year. The UK government has committed £28.6 million toward the £59.6 million project, with a Development Consent Order application expected in 2027. Further route consultations are set for November and January.
