Government officials from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero visited Hull to inspect progress on the Hull Heat Network, a district heating scheme that will supply low-carbon heat and hot water to buildings in the city centre. The project is backed by a £27m loan from the National Wealth Fund, a £15m grant from the Green Heat Network Fund, and £1.5m from the Levelling Up Partnership. The Energy Centre, designed by ARUP and built by Vital Energi on the former Trippett Street Car Park, will distribute heat through insulated underground pipes. Council buildings including the Guildhall, City Hall, Wilson Centre and History Centre are set to connect. Officials say the network will cut carbon emissions, reduce reliance on gas boilers, and give businesses access to cleaner energy. The visit is part of a wider push to expand publicly owned heat networks in the UK. Hull City Council is encouraging local organisations to explore connecting to the system.
