Work begins on George Street in Hull on Monday to install pipes for the Hull District Heat Network, a low-carbon heating system that will transfer heat generated from waste to buildings across the city centre. The three-week closure affects the stretch from Wilberforce Drive to the Freetown Way junction, with work limited to 07:30-17:00 BST from 17 August to 6 September. The council says the car park stays open and access to Charlotte Street Mews will be via reversed one-way from Grimston Street. The project, which started last September, will supply heat to 38 buildings in its first phase and is expected to save 110,000 tonnes of CO2 over 40 years. Funding comes from a £15m Green Heat Network Fund grant, £1.5m Levelling Up funding, and a £27m government loan repaid through network operation. The full installation is expected to take three years.
