Hull businesses invited to supply waste heat for city's low-carbon district heat network

Hull City Council is asking local businesses and organisations to help supply waste or surplus heat for the Hull District Heat Network (HDHN). The network will use underground pipes to carry hot water from a new energy centre near Napoleons Casino to public and private buildings across the city centre. The council expects the system to save around 110,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent over 40 years. The council has opened a pre-market engagement questionnaire on the YORTender portal to understand what heat sources are available, technical requirements, and potential timelines. The deadline for responses is Friday 3 July. Similar networks already operate in London, Glasgow, and Manchester. This early engagement phase is designed to shape the network so it works for both customers and partners. Businesses with access to surplus heat, such as from industrial processes or data centres, are encouraged to participate. The project is a key part of Hull's wider sustainability and green economy plans.
