India's Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are shifting from cost-focused back offices to strategic hubs embedding sustainability into every workspace decision. Nearly 85% of GCCs target carbon neutrality by 2030. Key moves include choosing green-certified buildings (over 80% of new Grade A supply is now certified), sourcing renewable energy, and electrifying employee transport fleets. These choices directly reduce operational carbon and feed into global ESG reporting for multinational parents. The article highlights that location is the most consequential sustainability decision, followed by fit-out materials and commute management. Employee transport, often overlooked, can undo other gains. Only 20-30% of corporate fleets are currently electric, but adoption is growing. For GCCs, sustainable workplaces are also a talent strategy, especially for Gen Z workers who value commute experience and environmental impact alongside compensation.
