How Corn Straw Biochar and Steel Slag Could Replace Cement in Dredged Silt Stabilization
bioengineer.orgResearchers from Shandong Jiaotong University and the University of Texas at Austin tested a cement-free binder made from ground granulated blast-furnace slag, carbide slag, and corn straw biochar to stabilize dredged river silt. In tri-axial shear tests, the optimized mix reached cohesion and friction angles comparable to ordinary Portland cement at 15 percent binder dosage. The binder uses no clinker, so it targets the carbon-heavy part of conventional cement production.
