The Hood River County Tree Farm carbon project, developed by The Climate Trust, has issued its first batch of carbon credits under the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label from the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market. The project covers over 32,000 acres of Douglas-fir and ponderosa pine forest in Oregon, committing to a 40-year term of improved forest management that extends timber rotation ages up to 90 years, far beyond typical industry practices. Carbon revenues will support the county's multiple-use forest management strategy, balancing timber income, recreation, and wildlife habitat. The project uses a dynamic baseline that recalculates credit impact every few years to maintain accuracy. This is a concrete example of how public forestlands can generate climate finance while preserving ecosystem services and public access.
