Hong Kong's latest policy address outlines concrete steps toward carbon neutrality by 2050. The government plans to raise the share of zero-carbon energy in electricity generation from about 25% now to 60-70% by 2035, relying on new reclamation at Tseung Kwan O and potential power imports from the mainland. Hydrogen trials for transport and construction are also moving forward, with new regulations expected this year to support the supply chain. On the demand side, the city has seen over 180,000 electric vehicles and a rapid expansion of charging infrastructure, with plans to add 5,000 fast chargers within five years. Waste reduction is also progressing: municipal solid waste disposal has fallen 9.1% since 2021, and the recovery rate reached 34% in 2024. The first I·PARK waste-to-energy facility begins full operation this year, aiming toward zero landfill.
