Hong Kong's acting chief executive Paul Lam said innovation will be the foundation of the city's first five-year plan, with green technology, new energy, and sustainable aviation fuels as priority areas. Speaking at the Green Way 2026 conference, Lam noted Hong Kong's greenhouse gas emissions are down 27 percent from their 2014 peak and that the city leads Asia in arranging green and sustainable bond issuances. The plan targets carbon neutrality by 2050 and includes expanding green fuel bunkering for shipping and aviation decarbonization. Lam said sustainable aviation fuels can cut life-cycle emissions by over 80 percent compared to conventional jet fuel. The EU Office to Hong Kong also confirmed European companies are contributing in waste management, water desalination, and aircraft recycling to support the city's green transition.
