Hong Kong's acting chief executive Paul Lam said innovation will drive the city's first five-year plan, with new energy and green technology as priority areas. Speaking at the Green Way 2026 event, Lam highlighted that Hong Kong leads Asia in green bond issuances and aims to expand green fuel bunkering and sustainable aviation fuels to cut emissions. Total greenhouse gas emissions are already 27 percent below their 2014 peak. The EU Office to Hong Kong and Macao confirmed European firms are contributing to waste management, water desalination, and aircraft recycling in the city. Lam invited further EU partnership on sustainability. The plan also targets shipping and aviation decarbonization as key sectors for competitiveness, with sustainable aviation fuels offering over 80 percent lifecycle emission cuts versus conventional jet fuel.
