Holcim opens first carbon capture test platform for advanced industrial validation

Holcim has launched what it calls the industry's first carbon capture test platform, designed to validate advanced carbon capture technologies for cement production. The platform will test different capture methods at an operational plant, aiming to find scalable solutions that can cut CO2 emissions from one of the hardest-to-abate industrial sectors. Cement manufacturing accounts for roughly 8% of global CO2 emissions, mostly from the chemical process of making clinker. Holcim's move signals that major cement producers are moving beyond pilot studies into real-world testing. The results could inform how carbon capture gets deployed across the industry, though cost and energy requirements remain open questions.
