Holcim, Paebbl, and Goldbeck have completed the first commercial-scale application of Paebbl Rebond, a carbon-storing supplementary cementitious material. The project involved pouring an industrial floor slab for a distribution center in Germany, replacing a portion of traditional cement with a mineralized CO2 powder. The material achieved a 13% reduction in embodied carbon compared to standard CEM II/B-M concrete and permanently sequestered 886 kg of CO2 across the project area. The partners report that the concrete maintained the required strength and workability without needing specialized equipment on site.
