Hindustan Zinc Partners to Test Green Hydrogen in Underground Mining for Net Zero by 2050
money.rediff.comHindustan Zinc has signed an MoU with Advantek Associates and Aero Eagle Automobiles to evaluate green hydrogen and clean energy technologies across its mining operations. The partnership will focus on hydrogen generation, storage, dispensing, and hydrogen-powered equipment, including hydrogen internal combustion engines and fuel cells for underground use. The company aims to become the first in India to deploy hydrogen fuel in underground mining as part of its net zero by 2050 goal. Heavy industry and mining are among the hardest sectors to decarbonize due to high energy demands and limited electrification options. This feasibility study will assess whether green hydrogen can replace diesel in underground vehicles and equipment. If successful, it could set a template for other mining firms in India and reduce lifecycle emissions from zinc production significantly.
