Hindustan Zinc partners to test green hydrogen fuel in underground mining for net zero by 2050
goodreturns.inHindustan Zinc has signed an MoU with Advantek Associates and Aero Eagle to evaluate green hydrogen and other clean energy options for its mining operations. The feasibility study will cover hydrogen production, storage, dispensing, and hydrogen-powered equipment including H2-ICE and fuel cell technologies. A key focus is using hydrogen fuel in underground mining, a hard-to-electrify environment where few miners have tested this approach. The company aims to cut carbon emissions from its energy-intensive processes and supports its target of reaching net zero by 2050 or sooner. If the assessment leads to deployment, Hindustan Zinc could become one of the first Indian miners to run underground equipment on green hydrogen. This represents a real step in decarbonizing heavy industry, though the timeline and cost details remain to be seen.
