Himadri Speciality Confirms Lithium-Ion Cell Talks Under China+1, Targets Battery Materials Growth
sahi.comHimadri Speciality Chemical has confirmed it is in talks to supply lithium-ion cells under the China+1 strategy, as it shifts from carbon chemistry toward battery materials. The company has set a target of ₹30,000 crore in battery materials revenue over six years and plans ₹1,300 crore in capital expenditure for FY27. Its Phase 1 LFP cathode plant in India is designed for 40,000 MTPA, with a 2,000 MTPA milestone expected by Q3 FY27. The company also set up a Dubai trading arm, Ardent Impex FZCO, to sell directly into African and European markets. It holds a 20.47% stake in International Battery Company for cell technology. Q1 FY27 revenue rose 28% YoY to ₹1,432 crore, with operating EBITDA up 33% to ₹313 crore and PAT up 27% to ₹228 crore. Management is applying a 30% ROCE floor to new projects. The key risk is execution. Moving from pilot-scale anode and cathode lines to commercial volumes is difficult, and Chinese producers still dominate costs. Watch for offtake agreements and the Q3 FY27 cathode milestone as concrete signals.
