Himadri Speciality Chemical bets on carbon nanotubes for EV batteries and aerospace growth
tradebrains.inHimadri Speciality Chemical is expanding beyond specialty chemicals into carbon nanotubes (CNTs), targeting high-growth sectors like electric vehicle batteries, semiconductors, and aerospace. The company plans a 200 MTPA CNT plant with Rs 70 crore investment, commissioning by Q4 FY27. CNTs offer strength 100 times that of steel and conductivity equal to copper, making them valuable for battery conductive additives and lightweight aerospace components. Himadri is also building out its battery materials ecosystem with anode and LFP cathode plants, and strategic investments in lithium-ion cell maker International Battery Company and silicon anode firm Sicona. The global CNT market is around 30,000 metric tonnes and growing, with Himadri aiming to capture export demand as Indian usage remains nascent. Management expects higher margins on CNTs compared to standard specialty products.
