Higher-Rated Carbon Credits Earn Growing Price Premiums in Key Markets, BeZero Analysis Shows
carbonherald.comA new BeZero Carbon analysis using AlliedOffsets pricing data finds that higher-rated carbon credits trade at a premium in three liquid market segments: Sub-Saharan African cookstoves, Latin American avoided deforestation, and North American improved forest management. In Latin American avoided deforestation, credits rated A or higher trade at roughly 2.5 times the price of unrated credits. Across all three segments, each additional rating notch adds about $1 to $1.50 on average. The ratings-price link has strengthened since 2024. In Sub-Saharan African cookstoves, there was little evidence of a ratings premium in Q3 2024, but by Q2 2026 the premium reached 17% per rating notch. BeZero says expanded ratings coverage, now exceeding 720 public ex-post ratings, allowed this sector-level analysis. For buyers, this suggests independent ratings are becoming a real pricing signal rather than just a risk label. BeZero expects greater liquidity, broader ratings coverage, and emerging regulation to keep tightening the link between ratings and prices. The analysis used project-level offer-price estimates covering more than 38,000 projects, with low-confidence estimates excluded.
