A new analysis from Omio shows that high-speed rail beats flying on many popular European routes when you factor in door-to-door time, cost, and carbon emissions. For example, the London to Paris train saves 99 minutes and cuts CO2 emissions by 95.5% compared to a flight. The Madrid to Seville route saves 80 minutes and costs about 73% less for a return ticket. Domestic routes in Spain and Italy also show big advantages. Madrid to Valencia saves 110 minutes and costs 75% less by rail. Rome to Florence saves 97 minutes and costs 75% less. The report underscores how city-center stations, shorter check-in times, and no baggage fees make rail a practical low-carbon alternative to short-haul aviation in Europe.
