Henkel South Africa reduced carbon emissions at its Alrode manufacturing facility by nearly 40% between 2024 and 2025, dropping from 613 tons of CO2 to 375 tons. The company achieved this through energy efficiency upgrades, equipment optimization, and a 1.8MWp solar installation that now supplies about 65% of the plant's electricity. The facility reached net-zero operational emissions in June 2026. The project also improved overall energy efficiency by 35%, generating cost savings and strengthening business resilience. Henkel says the Alrode site shows how global sustainability targets can be executed locally. The company aims to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 42% and Scope 3 by 30% by 2030, with a net-zero target for 2045. This aligns with South Africa's push for industrial decarbonization under the Paris Agreement.
