Henkel achieves carbon neutral production at Kurkumbh India site by electrifying heat and switching to renewables

The company replaced furnace oil based thermic fluid heaters with high efficiency electric systems and shifted to 100% renewable electricity. This eliminated around 11,300 tons of CO2 equivalent across Scope 1 and 2 emissions. A similar electrification project at Henkel's Gebkim site in Turkey removed natural gas use and cut 956 tons of CO2 annually. These projects are part of Henkel's strategy to phase out fossil fuels from global operations and meet its 2030 decarbonization target. The Kurkumbh site upgrade required optimizing heat loads, installing high efficiency heat exchangers, and increasing electrical capacity. The company says the results show that fossil fuel free manufacturing is achievable and scalable across regions.
