Henkel achieves carbon neutral manufacturing at Kurkumbh India and Gebkim Turkey sites through electrification and renewable energy

Henkel announced that its Adhesive Technologies plants in Kurkumbh, India, and Gebkim, Turkey, have reached carbon neutral production. The company eliminated Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by replacing fossil fuel heating systems with electric alternatives and sourcing 100% renewable electricity. The Kurkumbh site replaced furnace oil based thermic fluid heaters with electric systems, cutting about 11,300 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year. The Gebkim plant swapped a natural gas boiler for an electric boiler, saving nearly 956 tonnes annually. These conversions required significant electrical infrastructure upgrades and thermal process optimization. Henkel says the projects are part of its broader strategy to decarbonize its global manufacturing network. The company operates multiple facilities in India and employs over 1,300 people there. The announcement provides a concrete example of how industrial manufacturers can shift away from fossil fuels in production without relying on offsets, using direct electrification and renewable power purchase instead.
