Hempcrete wall panels debut at Brewarrina sports centre in outback NSW
architectureanddesign.com.auAustralia's first hempcrete sports centre is being built in Brewarrina, NSW, using prefabricated wall panels made from hemp shiv and lime binder. AJC Architects is behind the project, which brings a low-carbon building material to a remote outback town where heat, transport, and construction time are all real constraints. Hempcrete stores carbon in the hemp fibre and the lime binder, and it provides insulation without the high embodied energy of conventional concrete or steel framing. The Brewarrina sports centre will show whether prefabricated hempcrete panels work in a public building outside a city, not just in a showcase house.
