This specific material reduces the carbon footprint by over 25% compared to standard hot-mix asphalt by using binders that absorb and store CO2. The project saved an estimated 5.6 tonnes of CO2. By combining biogenic binders with locally sourced aggregates from Coldstones Quarry, the project further lowered transport emissions for the 1.2km section of the National Cycle Network.
