Heidelberg Materials has completed a major upgrade at its Airvault plant in France, replacing old semi-dry lines with a modern dry-process clinker line. The project reduces electricity use by 10 percent and allows nearly 90 percent of thermal energy to come from alternative fuels, cutting the plant's carbon footprint by almost 30 percent. To address process emissions, the company is developing the AirvaultGOCO2 project. This initiative uses oxy-combustion technology to capture 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually, which will be transported via pipeline to the coast and shipped to permanent storage in the North Sea.
