HDFC Bank sets FY32 carbon neutrality target, cuts Scope 2 emissions with more renewable energy
scanx.tradeHDFC Bank has announced a target to reach carbon neutrality for its operational emissions by FY32. In its latest ESG report for FY26, the bank reported a drop in Scope 2 emissions to 236,495 metric tonnes of CO2 equivalent, down from 284,878 the year before. The reduction came from a big increase in renewable energy procurement, which jumped from 66,437 GJ to 345,973 GJ. The bank also noted that women now make up 27 percent of its 211,206 employees. The announcement is a concrete step from a major Indian financial institution, but the details on how it plans to handle Scope 1 emissions and rising total energy consumption are still thin. The bank will need to show a clear path for the remaining emissions and address how it will manage energy demand growth alongside its renewable push. For now, the Scope 2 reduction is a solid start, but the full plan to reach carbon neutrality by FY32 will require more specifics on offsets, efficiency, and any direct emissions cuts.
