HD Hyundai E&F starts 290 MW LNG cogeneration plant at Daesan petrochemical complex in Seosan

HD Hyundai E&F has begun commercial operations at a new LNG cogeneration facility in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province, supplying both electricity and heat to the Daesan petrochemical complex. The plant, which cost about 435 billion won ($303 million), can generate 290 MW of power and 321 tons of steam per hour using a high-efficiency combined-cycle system. Construction started in March 2024, and testing completed before the plant went live in late July. The facility is designed to improve energy efficiency by producing electricity and heat from a single natural gas source, reducing overall fuel consumption compared to separate generation. HD Hyundai E&F says the plant will provide stable, competitively priced energy to industrial customers, including H&L Advanced, and help them cut carbon emissions. The project strengthens energy infrastructure at one of Korea's major petrochemical hubs and supports the region's industrial competitiveness.
