Haycarb develops advanced carbon materials for next-generation energy storage in Sri Lanka

The company has developed a high-purity activated carbon called HCE 400 for silicon-carbon composite anodes used in lithium-ion batteries. This material can increase energy density in electric vehicle batteries and grid storage systems. Haycarb invested USD 18 million in a new production facility to scale manufacturing of these materials. The company sources coconut shells from over 400 micro-entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka, using a by-product of the coconut industry as raw material. Haycarb has also implemented closed-pit charcoaling technology to reduce environmental impact. Several international customers have validated the HCE 400 material and are moving toward commercial production. The company received the Presidential Export Award for Innovative Export Product for this work.
