Havstjerne and EcoLog plan cross-border CO2 shipping route from Amsterdam to Norwegian storage
carbonherald.comHavstjerne, an offshore CO2 storage project on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and EcoLog Terminal Amsterdam signed a collaboration agreement to create a cross-border transport and storage route for European industrial emitters. The plan links EcoLog's receiving terminal, onshore logistics, and CO2 carriers with Havstjerne's injection and storage license. The goal is to give hard-to-abate plants without pipeline access a maritime option for permanent sequestration. The agreement focuses on the midstream gap. Instead of relying on pipelines, captured CO2 would move by ship from the Port of Amsterdam to Norwegian offshore storage. That could lower per-ton transport costs and give more emitters a way to manage EU ETS compliance. The partners describe the route as open access, though capacity, timeline, and final storage permits are not detailed yet.
