Hapag-Lloyd and Kuehne+Nagel have launched a collaboration to reduce ocean freight emissions using certified waste and residue based biofuels. The initiative focuses on the East Asia to North Europe trade lane, targeting a reduction of nearly 3,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions through 2026. The partnership utilizes a book-and-claim chain of custody system. This allows companies to claim verified emission reductions for their Scope 3 targets without requiring the physical biofuel to be loaded onto a specific vessel on a specific route.
