Hapag-Lloyd and Kuehne+Nagel Deploy Biofuels for Low-Carbon Shipping

Hapag-Lloyd and Kuehne+Nagel have partnered to reduce ocean freight emissions using certified waste and residue based biofuels. The initiative targets the East Asia to North Europe trade lane, aiming to avoid nearly 3,000 tonnes of CO2e emissions through 2026. The agreement utilizes a book and claim chain of custody system. This allows customers to claim verified emission reductions for their Scope 3 targets without requiring the physical biofuel to be allocated to a specific vessel or route.
