Hanoi and Fukuoka carbon-free cooperation: JCM hydropower, biomass boilers, and waste-to-energy tech
vietnam.vnHanoi and Fukuoka reviewed their 2021-2026 cooperation project toward a carbon-free society at an October 8 workshop. The program includes a 16 MW small hydropower project in Binh Thuan under Japan's Joint Crediting Mechanism, solar-powered agriculture models at seven locations, a biomass boiler prototype, and waste-to-energy and methane power initiatives. Both sides also ran training programs that brought 37 Hanoi officials to Japan for environmental management study. The shift here is from signing agreements to deploying specific technologies. Hanoi gets access to Fukuoka's waste treatment and energy efficiency methods, while Japanese businesses get a testing ground in Vietnam. The next phase will likely depend on whether pilot projects scale, how the JCM credits are counted, and whether local regulations and financing support broader adoption.
