Hang Lung Properties Reaches 100% Renewable Electricity Across 11 Mainland China Properties
macaubusiness.comHang Lung Properties has announced that all 11 of its operating properties in nine Chinese mainland cities will be powered entirely by renewable electricity by October 1, 2026. The portfolio spans 2.65 million square meters and includes landmarks like Plaza 66 in Shanghai and Riverside 66 in Tianjin. The company procures wind and solar power through China's green power market, covering both landlord operations and tenant usage, and expects to buy about 440,655 MWh of renewable electricity by year-end 2026, avoiding an estimated 227,513 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. The transition began in December 2021 at Spring City 66 in Kunming, with each subsequent property switching over as regional markets allowed. Hang Lung's properties were the first commercial developments to reach full renewable electricity coverage in Yunnan, Shandong, Liaoning, and Hubei provinces. This milestone moves the company closer to its net zero commitment and its goal of 100% renewable electricity across all operations by 2050. The announcement highlights how large commercial landlords in China can lead on decarbonization by working with tenants and navigating evolving electricity markets.
