Guyana is positioning itself as a leader in global carbon markets by implementing jurisdiction-scale certification for its carbon credits. This approach allows the country to monetize its standing forests through large-scale agreements, including a 750 million dollar deal with Hess Corporation and sales to international airlines. Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh attributes this success to the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS), arguing that deliberate policy and environmental innovation, rather than just oil discovery, have driven the country's climate leadership and economic growth.
