Guyana's Department of Environment and Climate Change, with support from the Global Green Growth Institute, launched a new digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) system to track greenhouse gas emissions from industrial processes and other sectors. The system is funded through the Green Climate Fund Readiness Programme and aims to align Guyana's reporting with international standards. The project will improve data availability, institutional coordination, and transparency for emissions and mitigation tracking. Officials say this should help Guyana produce more robust, verifiable emissions data and expand opportunities to access climate finance. Implementation includes training, cross-sector coordination, and stakeholder collaboration. The initiative supports Guyana's low-carbon development agenda and its national and international climate commitments through 2030. It follows recent moves by Guyana to scale aviation carbon credits, signaling a broader push to build credibility in carbon markets.
