Gujarat Climate Minister Urges Grassroots Climate Action, District Plans for 20 Districts
timesofindia.indiatimes.comGujarat's climate change minister Arjun Modhwadia said climate action will not work if it stays in government files. At a state awards event, he called for making climate action a mass movement and integrating climate education into school and college curricula. The state has prepared district-level climate action plans for 20 districts, covering fuel switching from LPG to PNG, replacing diesel generators with electric options, and climate-friendly practices in agriculture and fisheries. The event also saw an MoU between GEDA and IIM-Ahmedabad for climate cooperation, plus the launch of a Gujarat climate action tracker and a district-level climate smart action plan with decarbonisation pathways. Minister of state Pravin Mali noted that climate concepts like carbon footprint and net zero need simpler communication to reach more people. These moves show an attempt to move climate policy from central directives to local implementation, though the actual effectiveness will depend on follow-through and funding.
