BeZero has assigned a BBB carbon rating to Groundwork BioAg's Rootella Carbon program, which uses mycorrhizal fungi to build soil carbon on farmland. The rating gives buyers an independent signal on the program's accounting, additionality, and durability, and could help move soil carbon credits into portfolios that demand third-party scrutiny. The program issued 19,568 tCO2e in June 2026 under Verra's Verified Carbon Standard, with SCS Global handling verification. Groundwork BioAg projects 245,000 tCO2e in the next verification cycle in Q1 2027 and roughly 500,000 tCO2e by Q4 2027. The program relies on direct soil sampling at 593 points, applies a 26.43% uncertainty deduction, and passes up to 70% of net project proceeds to enrolled growers. The BBB rating is not a top-tier score, and the 2027 issuance numbers are still projections. But the combination of field measurement, conservative crediting, and grower revenue share addresses some of the weakest points in soil carbon projects.
