Ground Control's Wildfell project: 116 hectares of new woodland and habitat restoration in Essex
m.economictimes.comGround Control, a UK grounds maintenance firm, has developed Wildfell, a 116-hectare nature recovery site in North Essex. The project combines 50 hectares of new woodland registered under the Woodland Carbon Code with 22 hectares of ancient woodland enhancement, plus meadows, ponds, and hedgerows. It is designed to test different funding routes for long-term nature recovery, including carbon credits and biodiversity net gain offsets. The company allocates £100,000 annually through its Evergreen Fund and used a mix of grants and private investment to finance the work. Planting started in 2022 and finished by the end of 2024. The site also serves as a demonstration for local farmers on how to integrate nature recovery without converting whole farms, while generating revenue streams from carbon and biodiversity markets.
