Gresham House and Aviva Investors back Tasmanian forestry platform for carbon credits and timber
funds-europe.comGresham House, Aviva Investors, and Australia's Clean Energy Finance Corporation have launched the Tasmania Natural Asset Trust, a platform investing in sustainable plantation forestry on a 21,745-hectare property called Rushy Lagoon in northern Tasmania. The project combines commercial radiata pine plantations on lower-productivity land with conservation, ecological restoration, and sustainable grazing. It is expected to generate 3.2 million Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) while producing around five million tonnes of timber for domestic construction markets. The timber will be FSC or PEFC certified and processed by Tasmanian sawmills, helping to ease supply constraints and reduce pressure on native forests. The project also protects a Ramsar-recognized wetland. Over its life, the development is projected to create more than 190 jobs, up from 19 currently supported by the property. The investment is a concrete example of institutional capital flowing into nature-based carbon projects with measurable outcomes for both carbon sequestration and regional economies.
