Greensand CCS opens, TenneT starts second 2-GW converter jacket, Aker BP gas find: North Sea roundup
offshore-mag.comProject Greensand has opened the EU's first full-scale commercial offshore CO2 storage site, injecting CO2 from Danish biomethane plants into the depleted Nini West field. Initial capacity is 400,000 tonnes per year with plans to reach 4-8 million tonnes as demand grows. The project uses a dedicated CO2 carrier and truck transport from capture points to the Port of Esbjerg. Meanwhile, Heerema started fabrication of the jacket for TenneT's second 2-GW offshore converter platform, part of a standardized design for IJmuiden Ver Beta and Gamma and Nederwiek 2. The standardization aims to cut costs and accelerate North Sea wind grid connections. Aker BP also reported a modest gas discovery near Duva, and Viridien won a five-year contract for digital monitoring of decommissioned Stella assets.
