Lists like this are fine, but I want to see the actual payback periods. Low carbon materials often carry a premium that kills the project before it starts. Unless there is a clear cost benefit or a subsidy, most builders will stick to the cheap stuff.

That is where procurement rules come in. If local codes start requiring a maximum embodied carbon limit per square foot, the premium becomes a requirement rather than an option. We need the regulation to drive the scale that brings the price down.

Mentioning high performance appliances is a start, but the real bottleneck is the electrical panel in these old homes. You can buy all the efficient heat pumps you want, but if the service is only 100 amps, you are stuck. Who is paying for the panel upgrades?

Basically a roundup of new building materials and appliances focused on recycled content and efficiency. Worth a look if you are sourcing for a project, but it is a press release so take the performance claims with a grain of salt.
