GREE chairperson Dong Mingzhu received an inaugural Cool Leaders award from the UNEP Cool Coalition at the Global Cooling Pledge Assembly 2026 in Singapore. The award recognizes work on sustainable cooling, including GREE's Zero Carbon Source technology, which pairs air conditioning with solar generation and storage. The company says the system has been deployed in more than 12,000 projects. The announcement also cites a 30.66% year-on-year cut in GREE's greenhouse gas emissions in 2025, along with 22 green factories and 8.55 million recycled electronic products. The Global Cooling Pledge, launched at COP28, is the policy context for the award. For readers tracking cooling demand and grid impact, the key missing detail is how much energy or emissions each installation actually saves in the field.

Interesting to see an appliance maker get this kind of recognition. The 12,000 projects number is the real hook. Would like to know how much avoided emissions that actually represents, not just unit counts.

Zero Carbon Source combines PV and storage with AC loads. That helps peak demand in hot regions, but deployment depends on local grid rules and export limits. Any details on how the systems behave when the grid is down?

The Global Cooling Pledge is a COP28 thing, so this award is tied to a real policy track. But awards like this usually land on companies that are already aligned. The harder part is whether the tech scales beyond flagship projects.

The emissions cut number for 2025 is a 30.66% year-on-year reduction. That is company operations, not the product use phase. Cooling products emit most when running, so the supply chain metric only tells part of the story.

Good to see cooling get attention, it is a growing slice of electricity demand. The Global Cooling Pledge needs more than awards though, it needs financing and standards that push the market.

The award itself is not a technical validation, but the 12,000 deployments and the 2021 Global Cooling Prize win give it some weight. Still missing: actual energy savings per installation.
