GREE Chairperson Dong Mingzhu Honored by UNEP Cool Coalition for Sustainable Cooling Leadership

Dong Mingzhu, Chairperson of GREE Electric Appliances, received the inaugural Cool Leaders award from the UNEP Cool Coalition at the Global Cooling Pledge Assembly 2026 in Singapore. The award recognizes her leadership in advancing sustainable air conditioning, including GREE's Zero Carbon Source technology, which combines solar power with cooling systems. GREE says the technology has been deployed in over 12,000 projects and helped cut the company's greenhouse gas emissions by 30.66% in 2025. The recognition highlights the growing importance of efficient cooling as extreme heat drives up electricity demand and emissions. GREE's Zero Carbon Source, which won the 2021 Global Cooling Prize, turns air conditioners into smart energy systems that generate, store, and manage power. The company also operates 22 green factories and recycled 8.55 million waste electronics in 2025. This award signals that cooling efficiency is becoming a central piece of climate policy and corporate sustainability.
