Frontier, the carbon removal buyer coalition, has signed new offtake agreements worth $11.7 million with Oman-based startup 44.01. The deal covers nearly 21,000 tonnes of CO2 that will be permanently removed between 2028 and 2031. Buyers include Stripe, Google, Shopify, Autodesk, H&M Group, and Workday. This is Frontier's first purchase of in-situ mineralization and its first deal in the Middle East. 44.01 accelerates the natural process of CO2 mineralization by dissolving captured CO2 in water, injecting it underground, and letting high pressure and temperature turn it into rock. The company recently launched a project with Holcim in the UAE to capture and mineralize CO2 from cement production. The new Frontier-backed project will combine biogenic CO2 with permanent storage at commercial scale, and is expected to produce operating data for larger projects. The deal comes after Frontier raised $915 million from corporate buyers including Google, Anthropic, and Stripe. The coalition says it will focus future purchases on a narrower portfolio of companies with high gigaton-scale potential. This agreement is a signal that corporate buyers are willing to pay for permanent removal approaches beyond conventional storage.
