The 24/7 carbon free energy goal is the real test. Matching annual consumption with renewables is one thing, but matching hourly load is much harder. Google has been talking about this for years but the 37% jump shows how far they are from it.

42 million MWh is a lot. That is roughly the same as New Zealand's entire grid. The question is how much of that new load is being met by new clean generation versus just buying RECs. The 24/7 carbon free metric would show the real picture.
