Gold Standard approves Blenheim as first traditional political risk insurer for CORSIA carbon credits
carbonherald.comGold Standard has approved Blenheim Partnerships Limited as the first traditional political risk insurer for carbon credits used under CORSIA, the aviation industry's mandatory offset scheme. The policy, called SCREW, covers the risk of a host government revoking its authorization for carbon credit transfers after credits have been issued. This addresses a key bottleneck in the CORSIA market where host country authorization delays have kept the supply of eligible credits well below projected airline demand. Blenheim joins four other approved providers including the World Bank's MIGA and several private insurers. Since private insurance approvals began in October 2025, three project developers have used the mechanism to secure credit labelling for CORSIA's first phase through projects in Rwanda and Tanzania. The move is part of Gold Standard's effort to scale up the supply of high quality eligible credits as airline demand grows under the mandatory offset scheme.
