Global Research Roadmap for Peatland Conservation and Carbon Storage
news.exeter.ac.ukResearchers from the University of Exeter and other institutions have identified critical knowledge gaps in peatland science. While peatlands cover only three percent of Earth's land, they store more carbon than all global forests, making their preservation essential for climate stability. The study outlines urgent priorities, including the identification of carbon tipping points, the use of remote sensing for monitoring, and the integration of Indigenous knowledge into restoration. This roadmap aims to prevent fragmented investment and ensure that nature based solutions actually deliver long term emissions reductions.
