Global Research Initiative Identifies 50 Priority Questions for Peatland Carbon Sequestration

Scientists from the University of Nevada, Reno and an international working group have identified 50 urgent research questions to improve peatland management. Peatlands are among the most carbon dense ecosystems on earth, often storing significantly more carbon than tropical rainforests, making their preservation vital for climate regulation. The initiative, published in Nature Communications Earth & Environment, crowdsourced input from hundreds of experts across 54 countries. The goal is to standardize data collection on carbon dynamics and methane cycling to help policymakers and land managers protect these critical carbon sinks.
